Description: Pyrimedar is an antimalarial agent used to treat and prevent malaria caused by plasmodium falciparum. Each tablet contains 500mg sulfadoxine and 25mg pyrimethamine.

Key Features:
• Treatment: Used to treat acute, uncomplicated malaria caused by P. falciparum.
• Prevention: Used for malaria prophylaxis in areas where P. falciparum is resistant to chloroquine.
• Dosage: For adults, 2 or 3 tablets as a single dose, followed by a 3 to 7-day course of quinine. For prophylaxis, 1 tablet weekly or 2 tablets every 2 weeks.

Side Effects:
• Common: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, skin rash.
• Severe: Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, blood disorders, and active bacterial or fungal infections.

Caution:
• Contraindications: Blood dyscrasias, megaloblastic anaemia due to folate deficiency, and infants less than 2 months of age.
• Pregnancy: Use only if the benefit outweighs the risk; folic acid supplementation is recommended.
